Bear Down
« on: August 01, 2009, 04:15:08 PM »
Well I got my first bear ever on opening morning at 30yd's :IBCOOL:.
We started the day running late and made are first stand at 6:00am an called in a yote which I miss with the 44 mag :dunno:. We made a run up to a higher spot an called in something but it wouldnt show and headed down to do one last stand at 9:00. We just walk back of the road about 100yds to a meadow an set up. We where gettin eatin alive by bugs. I started to call with jay in dist and was busy killing bug when I looked up a saw a bear walking in at about 75yds. I pulled down on it with the .338 an watch to make sure there where no cubs. I shot and made a perfect shot but it just arched its back and turned an came running at me. I gave it one more round and rolled it at about 30yds :IBCOOL: It was one of the coolest feelings I have had. The bear was over 6ft tall an was around 300lb alive.

Im working on the rest of the pics. I got it out and to the butcher all ready.

O forgot to say. When I was guting it out we hear something in the woods about 40yds away. I asked dad if he heard it. We had taken the rifles back to the truck already but had are 44's, and then we heard something running are way. Dad watched will I hurried and got done with the cleaning, He walked back to the truck with my pack and the other stuff we had out still and I started to drag the bear out. After Dad was out of view I heard something bark at me so I dropped the bear an pulled the pistol out and Dad came back and shot a round off. I think we had another bear watching us. :o

Nice job.  No bear this am.  Lots of bitting bugs though.
